Two Dog Owners Cited For Leaving Pets in Cars

The following information was provided by the Norwalk Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two dog owners were issued summonses Thursday for leaving their pets in cars when temperatures were in the 90s.

Police received a complaint at 3:37 p.m. of a dog in a car in a shopping center parking lot at 500 Connecticut Ave.

An officer located the dog and found it in distress, panting heavily, and moved it into his air conditioned cruiser.

Animal Control Officer Robert Sirico then arrived and moved the dog into his animal transportation vehicle.

When the dog’s owner returned to her vehicle, she allegedly told Sirico she had only left Zoe in the car for 25 minutes.

Jodi Castellanos, 35, of Bridgeport, was issued a summons for cruelty to animals and given a court date of August 3.

A person convicted of cruelty to animals can be fined up to $1,000 and/or be imprisoned for up to a year.

In the second instance, police were called at 4:24 p.m. about a dog in a car in a parking lot at 761 Main Ave.

Sirico located the dog and found it was panting heavily in distress.

He moved the dog into his transportation vehicle. Although the car’s windows were rolled down about three inches, he measured the interior temperature of the car at 106 degrees.

When the owner arrived, he allegedly told Sirico Deacon had only been in the car for 15 minutes.

Peter Wilcox, 58, of 36 Dock Rd., was issued a summons for cruelty to animals and given a court date of Aug. 3.

Copper Pipes, Pump Stolen

The owner of a residence on Richards Avenue told police a water pump and copper pipes were taken from the basement of his house.

He said the theft occurred between July 18 and Thursday.

The basement door was broken to gain entry.
