Two-Car Accident in Norwalk Temporarily Shuts Down Merritt Parkway

The Norwalk Fire Department responded to the scene; drivers from both vehicles were take to Norwalk Hospital.

 

The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a two-car accident on the Merritt Parkway just before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

According to a news release sent by the department, a Subaru Outback traveling southbound left the roadway and hit a GMC pickup truck on the northbound side of the parkway, just beyond exit 40. The Subaru came to rest against the center median guardrail and the pickup was across both of the northbound lanes.

Firefighters worked for 15 minutes to extricate the lone male driver of the pickup who was pinned by the driver’s door and dashboard. The lone woman driving the Subaru was boarded and collared as a precaution and removed from the passenger side of her vehicle. Both drivers, who were resonsive to firefighters, were transported to Norwalk Hospital for further evaluation.

The accident that closed the northbound portion of the parkway until 1:35 p.m. Connecticut State Police remained on scene to investigate the accident.
