Three Held For Alleged Assault at Bar

Woman gets punched attempting to intervene in fight, police said.

Three men were arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly instigating a fight with a couple as they were leaving an uptown bar, police said.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Cotto said a man and his girlfriend were exiting El Mexicano at 22 Wall St. when the three men made some insulting comments.

The man exiting the bar turned around and got into an argument with them that grew into a fight, Cotto said.

The woman attempted to intervene and got punched in the face, Cotto said.

Police were called at 12:30 a.m. They reported the insulted man had scratches on his face. Neither he nor his girlfriend requested medical attention.

Arrested were Carlo Diaz, 21, of 6 Laura St., Yoni Ponce, 34, of 167 Main St., and Edwin Zuniga, 26, whose address was not provided by police.

Each was charged with two counts of third-degree assault.

Diaz and Ponce were held on $1,000 bond. Zuniga was held on $2,000 bond. All three were given court dates of Nov. 30.
