South Norwalk Shooting May Have Been About Territory

The two men shot Tuesday night aren't from the neighborhood, police said.

Two men may have been shot Tuesday night on Woodward Avenue because they're not from the neighborhood. That's the most likely reason investigators have come up with so far, said Det. Sgt. Thomas Roncinske on Thursday.

The men were among a group of people standing in front of the South China restaurant, 44 Woodward Ave., when they were hit. They told police the shots may have been fired from a passing car.

The shooter showed “blatant disregard for human life," Roncinske said. He said it doesn't appear the men were specifically targeted.

Police were notified of the shooting at 11:39 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found a 17-year-old Norwalk resident down on the sidewalk with a bullet wound in his face.

He was taken by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital and later transferred to Yale-New Haven hospital. Roncinske said the bullet is near his brain.
