South Norwalk Liquor Store Robbed

The following information was provided by the Norwalk Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police said $1,010 in cash was taken Tuesday morning during an armed robbery at Cocchia’s Liquor Store at 23 Ely Ave.

The store clerk said two black males, six-feet tall, wearing all black clothing and masks, entered the business holding handguns.

They took cash from two registers, he said, then fled. Witnesses said they drove away in a silver or gray Chevrolet Impala.

The man said after getting into a confrontation with Oliveras in his Plymouth Avenue home, she left and he discovered a deep scratch on his girlfriend’s car. Also, the mirrors were damaged and the license plates removed.

Police said Oliveras also had damaged the woman’s car in the past.

She was located at her parent’s home and taken into custody.

Oliveras was released on a promise to appear in court Wednesday.

Man said to steal, sell, boss's landscaping equipment

A Norwalk man employed by a landscaper was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing his boss’s lawn equipment and selling them to a friend who wasn’t aware they were stolen.

Wilson Vega, 35, of 58 Plattsville Ave., was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny.

Police said Vega broke into a garage his boss rents to store his equipment. Items taken included a 48-inch lawn mower, three backpack blowers, two walk-behind power blowers, seven weed whackers and an aerator designed to be towed behind a tractor that
was brand new and still in its carton.

The value of the lost equipment was $8,650, police said.

The landlord of the garage had installed a surveillance camera, and it recorded someone carrying away the equipment on August 11th.

Vega’s friend is also a landscaper and purchased the equipment for $600, police said. Vega allegedly told him his boss was closing his business.

It wasn’t clear from police reports how the unsuspecting purchaser learned the equipment was stolen, but he contacted police when he found out.

Police said only the lawn mower was recovered. Police reports didn’t say if it was known where the rest of the equipment was located.
