This is Norwalk's second homocide in 2012. On Feb. 3, 20-year-old Joseph Bateman was shot to death while on a walkway behind the Avalon Norwalk apartments on Belden Ave.

Original story: A man was shot Wednesday afternoon in the driveway of a multi-family house at 119 South Main St. in South Norwalk.

The shooting occurred just south of the intersection of South Main and Concord streets. Police were dispatched to the scene at 3:16 pm.

Investigators at the scene could not provide the victim's condition. The first patrol units to arrive described the victim as alive with labored breathing. They asked a dispatcher to tell Norwalk Hospital paramedics they needed to expedite their response to the location.

During a press briefing across the street from the crime scene,  Det. Sgt. Thomas Fern said the victim was a black male shot at least once in the abdomen. He said he didn't know if the man lived in the residence where the shooting occurred.

"The most important thing is, we want the public to know that they are not in danger" as a result of the shooting, Fern said, indicating the victim was targeted by the gunman.

Fern added that the police have some "persons of interest" they need to talk to.

Police put down a yellow marker labeled "2" at the spot where the victim collapsed in the driveway. Markers labeled "1," "3" and "4" were placed on South Main Street south of the driveway. It appeared a spent shell casing lay in front of marker "1."
