Alleged Sex With Minor Results in Felony Arrest

The following information was provided by the Norwalk Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Despite being warned more than once, a city man continued to have sex with a 15-year-old Norwalk girl, police said, resulting in his being arrested by warrant Thursday on a felony assault charge.

Michael Leo, 19, of 391 Newtown Ave., surrendered at police headquarters after learning police held a warrant for his arrest, said Lt. Ashley Gonzalez, commander of the Youth Bureau.

Leo’s alleged relationship with the girl was brought to the attention of police last October, Gonzalez said.

At a news conference Friday morning, Gonzalez said both the girl’s father and a Youth Bureau officer warned Leo to stay away from her. He said her father didn’t want Leo arrested.

Gonzalez said the girl’s parents contacted the bureau again in April to say the relationship between Leo and their daughter was continuing.

An investigation determined the two had sex at least three times, Gonzalez said, resulting in the police obtaining an arrest warrant for Leo.

Leo is charged with second-degree sexual assault, a B felony, and risk of injury to a minor. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond and given a court date of July 15.

If found guilty, Leo would be required to register with the state as a sex offender, Gonzalez said.

Leo did not immediately call in reply to a phone message asking if he chose to comment on his arrest.

Teens Reported Smoking Marijuana On Bus

Two teens allegedly smoking marijuana on a Wheels bus Thursday were arrested for possession of stolen property, police said.

The bus driver called police at 2:17 p.m. to report the pair, who are cousins, smoking  marijuana, and a patrol officer stopped the bus on West Avenue.

Police could not provide their identities because they’re youths.

A search of their backpacks found they were carrying car stereos and speakers, the officer reported. They were said to have told the officer they came from their grandmother’s basement.

When the officer said he didn’t believe them, they allegedly admitted the items were stolen.

Both were charged with six-degree larceny.

The officer’s report said nothing about use or possession of marijuana.

Club Fight Results in Three Arrests

Three men were arrested Thursday night after causing a disturbance in a South Norwalk nightclub, police said.

The owner of the Episode Club, 112 Washington St., called police at 11:25 p.m. to report a fight among club patrons.

When officers arrived they reported encountering the three apparently intoxicated men on the sidewalk in front of the club.

Officers said they continued shouting and a crowd formed, so they were put in patrol cars and transported to police headquarters.

Giuseppe Mercuri, 28, Marcello Mercuri, 20, and Vincent Mercuri, 22, all of 12 Reservoir Ave., were charged with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer.

The three were held in lieu of $1,000 bond and given a court date of July 15.

Man Robbed of Cigarettes

A Norwalk man told police he was assaulted and robbed of a pack of cigarettes Thursday night while walking on Cedar Street.

The 21-year-old man said a group of teenagers approached him and knocked him to the ground.

They grabbed the cigarettes out of his pocked and fled, he said.
