Police: Woman Stabbed By Enraged Boyfriend

Man allegedly told police they were arguing over how she mistreats their two young children.

A Bridgeport man was arrested Thursday morning on an accusation that he stabbed his girlfriend in the face and torso during an argument over how she treats their children, police said.

Christian Vasquez allegedly blurted out to police, “You’re looking for me, I stabbed her.” He is charged with attempted murder and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

The 32-year-old woman was taken to Norwalk Hospital where she underwent surgery. Police said she was in stable condition.

“The wounds indicate he was in a rage,” said Detective Sgt. Thomas Roncinske during a briefing with reporters.

Vasquez, 30, was held on $500,000 bond and was to be arraigned in state Superior Court in Norwalk Thursday.

Police said he lives with his mother at 71 Melrose Ave. in Bridgeport, but sometimes stays over at his girlfriend’s apartment at the Washington Village public housing complex on Water Street, where the attack occurred.

Vasquez allegedly told police both had been drinking and he “just lost it” because “she gets crazy and beats the kids.”

They have two children: a young girl who is Vasquez’s stepdaughter, and a young boy they had together.

A neighbor at Washington Village told police she was awakened by a woman screaming, “I’m going to die.” The incident was reported at 1:48 a.m.

Police described Vasquez’s weapon as a hunting knife, which the victim took from him. It was recovered outside the apartment.

An officer reported she was covered in blood “from head to toe.”
