UPDATE: Police Name Woman in Norwalk Parking Lot Fatality

A woman, 68, suffered a fatal accident when she was pinned by her own (driverless) car, which was in reverse, and another car in a parking lot.

Update 2:18 p.m., Wednesday:

Norwalk police have named the woman who died Wednesday afternoon when she was pinned between her own SUV and another one.

The victim was Josefina Romero of Reynolds Street in Norwalk.

That was all the new information police had as of early Wednesday afternoon. Police have not said why the woman was outside her own moving vehicle or exactly how the accident occurred.

Original article, Tuesday:

A 68-year-old Norwalk woman died this afternoon after she was pinned between her own SUV, which was in reverse, and another vehicle in a parking lot near Town Fair Tire at 532 Connecticut Ave.

The bizarre incident was still being investigated by Norwalk police Tuesday afternoon when a department spokesman, Lt. Paul Resnick, released initial details.

The name of the Norwalk woman, who was pronounced dead at 2:49 p.m., has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Police said the woman was driving her gray 2004 Nissan Exterra and then left the vehicle. The vehicle, driverless and with the shift in "reverse" rather than "park", then pinned her to another SUV, a black 2001 Nissan Exterra.
