Cops Surround West Rocks Home, Remove Man Reportedly Threatening Suicide

A man reportedly threatening to shoot himself has caused Norwalk police to surround the home and block off traffic to part of West Rocks Road before taking the man away.

Update 3:51 p.m.:

Norwalk police released this statement at 3:47 p.m.:

On July 22, 2014 at 1129 a.m., Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a third party call reporting that a person at 159 West Rocks Rd. had contacted them and stated they were going to harm themselves with a firearm.

The Norwalk Police Department Patrol Division responded to the scene and secured the area. Due to a report of a firearm, the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) was dispatched to the scene.

The distraught person was located within the residence and taken into protective custody by ESU members. The person was subsequently transported to the Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.

The Detective Bureau has taken over the investigation at this time. There were no injuries during the operation. 

Update 3:18 p.m.:

West Rocks Road has been reopened to traffic after Norwalk police took a man into custody, The Hour reports.

Update 3:15 p.m.:

Norwalk police entered the house at 159 West Rocks Rd. and removed a subject from the residence, the Norwalk Daily Voice reports.

Update, 2:23 p.m.:

A report that a man threatened to harm himself and had barricaded himself in a home at 159 West Rocks Rd. caused police to surround the house and, at about 1:30 p.m., block the road to traffic, WFSB-TV reports.

Police negotiators are at the scene, and nearby West Rocks Middle School and All Saints Catholic School have each been notified to go into lockdown if there are students in the buildings — although police aren't sure if the schools have any summer programs on Tuesday, according to the television station.

A call to Norwalk Police reporting an armed, despondent man at a home on West Rocks Road has resulted in the department's Special Services Division and other police officers surrounding the home, according to the Norwalk Hour.

Police have blocked off West Rocks Road to traffic near the scene, WFSB-TV reports.

The Hour reports that several sources said the man threatened to shoot himself.
