Police Say Norwalk Man Punched Pregnant Girlfriend

A 20-year-old Norwalk man was accused of punching his pregnant girlfriend in the ribs; a protective order for her had previously been issued against him, police said.

A Norwalk woman, seven months pregnant, told police her 20-year-old boyfriend, against whom she already had a protective order, punched her in the ribs.

Police advised her to stay away from the man, Benjamin Friedman of 3 Elmcrest Ter., but about 13 hours later, when police knocked on his door, she answered it, police said.

At 1:13 a.m. Sunday, the woman called police from a friend's home. She told police that during an argument Friedman punched her, spat on her and then stopped her as she was trying to leave his apartment. When police checked his apartment, they found he wasn't there.

Police advised the woman to lock the door of her own home, separate from Friedman's, and to call police if he came to it.

At about 2:20 p.m. the same day, police again arrived at the apartment in search of Friedman and found the victim answering the door. She told them Friedman was there.

Police charged Friedman with violation of a protective order, disorderly conduct, assault on a pregnant female and first-degree failure to appear in court.

The above information was provided by the Norwalk Police Department. Neither arrests nor charges indicate a conviction, and neither means that a person is guilty of what police allege.
