Police: Man With Blood On His Face Found Carrying Narcotics

Suspect already on special parole for drug possession conviction in 2006.

Officers assigned to the Special Services Unit reported making a drug arrest Tuesday afternoon after encountering a man with blood on his face.

The officers reported they were driving on South Main Street when they spotted the man who, they alleged, turned his body to hide his right arm from their view.

They reported ordering the man -- later identified as Tyrone Patterson -- to show them his hands, and he allegedly spun around and began running. Patterson allegedly dropped a plastic bag and a cell phone as the officers were chasing him.

One of the officers fired a Taser stun gun at Patterson, but the barbs did not make contact with his body. The officers eventually caught up with Patterson and tackled him to the ground, they said.

They reported recovering the bag Patterson dropped and his cell phone. The bag, they said, contained 23 pieces of crack cocaine, and he had a piece of crack cocaine in his pocket.

Patterson is on special parole, so the officers called his parole officer.

The officers didn't provide a reason why Patterson's face had blood on it.

State judicial records show Patterson is on special parole for an arrest in April 2005 that resulted in him being found guilty of manufacturing, distributing or selling a hallucinogenic or narcotic substance.

On Wednesday, Patterson was charged with manufacturing, distributing
or selling narcotics, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics within
1,500 feet of a school, possessing or selling narcotics within 1,500 feet of a
school, and interfering with an officer.

He was held on $50,000 bond and given a court date of Dec. 20.
