Police: Man Threatens Stepson Before Fight

A 42-year-old Norwalk man threatened to stab his 17-year-old stepson before engaging in a fight with family members, according to Norwalk police.

Alvaro Guzman was talking with family members and relatives at Norwalk Hospital when he made the threat, then headed home to ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, where the teenager was as his brother-in-law raced to get there before him and prevent any harm to the boy, police said.

Norwalk police gave this further account (an accusation not proven in court) of the incident:

Guzman and the boy had gotten into violent confrontations before, and other family members had also confronted Guzman, police were told. Family members said the root of the disputes were complaints over Guzman's drinking.

Guzman -- who had been drinking that night -- didn't have a car, so the brother-in-law was able to drive to the home on Cavanaugh Street before Guzman's arrival.

After Guzman did arrive, he argued with the boy. The brother-in-law, also the boy's uncle, put himself between the two when Guzman raised his fist. Guzman then punched his brother-in-law in the mouth and cheek in the presence of several children.

Guzman was charged with third-degree assault, threatening, disorderly conduct and four counts of risk of injury to a minor (a felony). he was held on $20,000 bond pending an appearance Tuesday, Nov. 12, in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
