Police: Man Threatens Bar Bouncer With Knife

Victim pushes assailant away, resulting in his hand being cut.

A city man was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly putting a knife to the throat of bouncer at an East Norwalk bar.

Police spokesman Lt. Praveen John said the incident grew out of a disturbance in Fieste Mexico, 21 Fort Point St, that resulted in the bouncer ejecting two men from the premises.

The men left, but then returned, John said. The bouncer told one of them he could stay, but the other had to leave. They both started walking away, John said, but then one of them, later identified as Angel Mejia-Linares, rushed the bouncer, grabbed him by the collar and put a knife to his throat.

The bouncer ran outside and yelled out to passing patrol car that he needed help. As the officer exited his car, the bouncer pointed to the man who had confronted him and said he has a knife.

The man started walking away and the officer ordered him to stop. The officer said the man threw something across the street and kept walking.

The officer ran after him and grabbed him. The man struggled, but the officer was able to pull him to the ground and handcuff him.

The officer walked across the street and found a folding knife, John said.

The bouncer declined medical attention.

Mejia-Linares was charged with second-degree assault and interfering with an officer. He was held on $25,000 bond and given a court date of Jan. 3.
