Police: Man Arrested For Threatening Woman With Lighter

A city man was arrested by warrant Monday morning for allegedly threatening a former girlfriend with a cigarette lighter in April, according to police.

The arrest occurred after a patrol officer checked the registration of a green Acura he encountered near the intersection of Lowe and Bouton streets and found its owner, Gregory Wills, had an outstanding arrest warrant. He signaled the car to stop, and Wills was taken into custody.

On April 25, a woman called police to say Wills had entered her Dry Hill Road apartment using a key he had not returned. She allegedly told officers he put a lit lighter to the back of her shirt, as if to burn her, in an attempt to get her out of bed.

The woman allegedly said she reached for her phone to call police, but Wills threw it on the floor and stomped on it, police said.

Wills, 32, of 5 Lowe St., was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, and interfering with a 911 call. He was held on $10,000 bond and was to appear in court Monday.
