Police: "Lost" Man Charged With Burglary

Said he wanted to go to Stew Leonard's for lunch before attending drug education class, police said.

A police officer dispatched to a reported residential burglary in the first block of Honey Hill Rd. Wednesday morning said he stopped to question a man he encountered en route to the call who had a "puzzled look" on his face.

He reported the man was walking in the roadway near where the burglary occurred, and said he told him he was trying to get to Stew Leonard's store to buy lunch before attending a drug education program.

The officer reported he gave the man directions to the store, which is on Westport Avenue, and then proceeded to the burglary call.

At the address of the burglary, the homeowner told the officer he had left his residence at 9:30 a.m., and when he returned at about 11 a.m. he found a screen pulled off a window. Inside, he said, he discovered several dresser draws had been pulled open and a small amount of cash was missing.

The officer reported that after taking the burglary report he returned to patrol and encountered the man he met earlier still in the neighborhood, and walking in the opposite direction from Stew Leonard's.
