Police Identify Body On I-95

Police arrived on scene just before midnight Thursday and investigated the death on the highway until about 7 a.m.

Update: 9:45 a.m. Saturday

An off-duty police officer notified police after seeing a body on the Exit 18 in Westport entrance ramp late on Thursday night, according to a report from News 8.

Police identified the woman as 43-year-old Michelle M. Cassano, but her address remains unknown.

Police said the victim suffered significant trauma and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene. Investigators located several personal items nearby, which police believe belonged to Cassano.

Several witnesses were interview by investigators, but police are asking anyone with any information to call state police at 203-696-2500.

Westport police responded to Interstate 95’s Exit 18 ramp late Thursday night after state police spotted the body on camera.

The incident is being treated as a "suspicious death," according to state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance.

No new updates are available at this time, Vance said, noting police will not be able to reveal details until they “know what they are dealing with.”

The person still has not been identified, and the cause of death remains undetermined.

The right lane of traffic was closed and traffic backed up for nearly six miles on the southbound side of the highway as state police investigated the incident until about 7 a.m. Friday. The body remained on the highway until after 6 a.m.
