Police Crackdown Breaks Last Year's Fourth of July Stats

The number of DUI arrests and speeding tickets issued is up from 2012.

Stepped up enforcement efforts on Connecticut's roadways are reaping results for state police.

The campaign, which kicked off at 12:01 a.m. on July 3, has already surpassed last year's stats, with regard to DUI arrests and speeding tickets.

As of midnight on July 7, Connecticut State Police are reporting the following:

  • Total Accidents: 370
  • Accidents with Injury: 55
  • Fatal Accidents: 0
  • DUI Arrests: 65
  • Speeding Tickets: 2,491
  • Seatbelt Tickets: 534
  • Other Moving Violations (i.e. cell phone, unsafe lane change, following too close etc.): 5,737
By way of comparison, in 2012, state police reported the following stats:
  • Total Accidents: 323
  • DUI Arrest: 45
  • Speeding Tickets: 1,059
"State Troopers will continue to enforce all motor vehicle laws as the summer continues," according to a release from state police. "If you see a suspected drunk driver, that is an emergency, call 911."
