Westport Police Arrest Shelton Man As Bank Robbery Suspect
Detectives developed information about the suspect, including placing him in another Westport bank shortly before the robbery was reported, police said.
WESTPORT -- Police arrested a Shelton man Thursday morning for allegedly robbing a Citibank branch at knifepoint last week.
In a news release, Capt. Sam Arciola said Westport detectives and members of the Shelton Police Dept. went to the home of James L. Watson, 616 Howe Ave., and took him into custody.
Watson, 44, is charged with first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny.

Police allege that at about 1 p.m. on Dec. 21, Watson entered the branch at 399 Post Rd. West and approached a teller. He allegedly showed the teller a knife and passed a note demanding money.
After being handed cash, he walked out of the bank.

Arciola said evidence from the robbery, including the trench coat the robber was wearing, along with a baseball hat and the knife were found on North Sylvan Road a short time after the crime was reported.
Arciola said detectives developed information that Watson had been in the Hudson Valley Bank at 420 Post Rd. West shortly before the robbery at Citibank.
Watson was held in lieu of $50,000 bond and will be arraigned Friday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
