Norwalk Woman Assaulted, Threatened With Gun

Bond set at $250,000 for man who allegedly assaulted and threatened girlfriend.

After repeated occurrences of alleged domestic abuse, Norwalk Police arrested a man who had left California to be with his girlfriend, a local woman.

Whitney H. Wilcox, 27, of 97 Richards Avenue, was charged with third-degree assault, interference with a 911 call, unlawful restraint, and narcotics possession. He was taken into custody around 8 p.m. on Monday. Bond was set at $250,000.

According to the police report, Wilcox and his 28-year girlfriend got into a fight on New Year's Eve. The couple had been at a party at her parents home in Stamford. When they returned home, the two argued because Wilcox felt the parents of his girlfriend had disrespected him. Wilcox allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by throat and threw her down to the floor. The woman told the police that Wilcox also threatened to hurt her family.

The police report stated  the woman attempted to calm Wilcox down and they talked about the problems they were having. However, on the following Monday, the arguments started up again. Wilcox allegedly came home upset and "blew up" according to the police report. He allegedly threw his girlfriend down and went into his bedroom and came out with a gun. The police report stated that the woman attempted to call 911, but Wilcox took the phone and smashed it on the ground, making it inoperable. The woman said that Wilcox threatened to go over to her parents house in Stamford and "take care of them."

According to the report, Wilcox kept cocking and re-cocking his gun and called his girlfriend a few expletives.

Norwalk Police called the woman's parents in Stamford and advised them of the threats. On January 8, the woman came to the police headquarters in Norwalk, along with her parents to make a complaint against Wilcox. Police received a warrant and went to the residence of Wilcox to arrest him.

As they arrived at the address of Wilcox, they saw him getting out of the car. They arrested him without incident. While searching his car for a gun, Wilcox reportedly told police that the gun his girlfriend said he had threatened her with, was a pellet gun. During their investigation, police discovered 5.2 ounces of marijauna in two clear sandwich bags. They also found a glass smoking pipe with a white, rock-like substance. Police tested the substance and confirmed it was cocaine.

In addition, police officers found targets that with approximately 30 holes that were consistent with the use a small firearm. They also found pamphlets on gun safety and an NRA certificate.

Wilcox was due in court later on Tuesday.
