Norwalk, Westport Firefighters Free Driver from Car Wreck on Merritt

The driver's injuries were not life-threatening, according to the Norwalk Fire Department.

 

Norwalk and Westport firefighters responded to a one-car accident on the Merritt Parkway Wednesday afternoon between northbound exits 40 and 41, according to a statement released by the Norwalk Fire Department.

Car went down an embankment and took down several sections of the pole and cable guard rail before coming to rest 20 inches from the roadway, according to department.

Along with Norwalk Hospital paramedics, firefighters worked together to remove the injured male driver from the and carry him up to the roadway. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The parkway was reduced to one lane for 20 minutes, while emergency crews worked to remove the vehicle. Firefighters cleared the parkway by 4:45pm and state police were on scene for a short time to investigate the cause of the accident.
