Norwalk Police Sgt. Out of Hospital After Motorcycle Accident [Update]

Sgt. Joseph Moquin, on the Norwalk Police motorcycle squad, was riding his police motorcycle on Wilbur Cross Parkway early this morning toward the police training academy in Meriden when he became involved in an accident and broke his leg.

Update 6:24 p.m.:

Norwalk Police Sgt. Joseph Moquin was treated at a hospital and released after suffering a leg injury in an accident while he was riding his police motorcycle to the State Police Academy in Meriden Friday morning.

The accident occurred on the Wilbur Cross Parkway near Exit 59 in Hamden, said Lt. Paul Resnick, spokesman for the Norwalk Police Department.

The incident involved a car near a rise in the highway where there was glare from the sun at the time of the early morning accident, Resnick said.

State Police are investigating the accident.

Norwalk Police Sgt. Joseph Moquin, head of the police motorcycle squad, broke his leg in an accident while he was riding his police motorcycle on the Wilbur Cross Parkway early this morning.

Norwalk Police spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Cotto said few details were known about the accident, which is being investigated by state police. Moquin either broke his ankle or somewhere else in his leg, she said.

Moquin was on his way to the state Police Academy in Meriden when the accident happened.

The Norwalk Police Department's , with the delivery of three Harley-Davidson police edition Road Kings. At the time, Moquin said he and two other officers in the patrol unit had undergone three weeks of training on police motorcycle patrolling.

With the police gear added to the bikes, they cost between $23,000 and $24,000 (paid for through a U.S. Justice Department grant) and weigh as much as 870 lbs.
