Norwalk Police Release Identity of Deceased Boater

Norwalk Police received assistance from the Guatemalan Embassy in contacting Mauro Hermelindo Godinez Pineda's next of kin.

Forty-year-old Norwalk resident Mauro Hermelindo Godinez Pineda has been identified as the man who died on Memorial Day in Long Island Sound off Calf Pasture Beach.

According to a release from Norwalk Police Lt. Paul Resnick, the cause of death was drowning and has been ruled accidental.

Pineda's body was discovered Tuesday, and his wallet containing identification was in his pocket. But police withheld releasing his name until notification of next of kin.

Norwalk Police Officers investigating the Memorial Day boating accident on Long Island Sound have been notified by the Guatemalan Embassy that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala has made contact with the father of the deceased and notified him of his son’s death.

The name of the 40-year-old victim is Mauro Hermelindo Godinez Pineda.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington has completed their autopsy and determined the “Cause of Death: Drowning” and the “Manner of Death: Accidental.”
