Norwalk Police Help Capture South Carolina Fugitive

A South Carolina man with violent past is captured in Stamford.

Norwalk Police helped capture a South Carolina who fleed the Palmetto State for a series of violent crimes.

According to police officials, their Violent Fugitive Task Force received information Friday morning that Frank Maxwell, 29, of Columbia, S.C. was in an apartment on Taylor Street in Stamford. Along with U.S. Marshals and the Stamford Police, the Norwalk unit went to Stamford and the apartment.  A woman answered the door and told officials that Maxwell wasn't in the apartment.

Officials asked the woman if they could search the apartment and she gave them permission to do so. Upon investigation, they found Maxwell hiding in an closet.

Maxwell is wanted in South Carolina for a robbery that allegedly occurred on April 13 in Columbia, S.C. Accoriding to police, he has prior convictions for assault and battery with intent to kill and armed robbery.

The South Carolina man is facing armed robbery, kidnapping, possession of firearm in commission of a violent crime and criminal conspiracy. Maxwell is also facing a parole violation charge.

Maxwell is currently being held on $500,000 bond as a fugitive from justice.
