Norwalk PD: Man Found with Crack Cocaine After Foot Chase

In total, police found more than three grams of crack cocaine in the car and more than four grams of marijuana on the suspect, according to an arrest report.

Norwalk police received a complaint around 4 p.m. Tuesday that two suspicious cars were sitting in a Prospect Street parking lot.

The complainant said that there were three or four people in each car and the caller suspected that the occupants were using drugs, police said.

When an officer arrived, one man, identified as 24-year-old Stephen Young, got out of the driver's seat of one of the cars. The officer told him to stay where he was, but Young fled on foot, police said.

After a short chase, Young slipped on a sidewalk and did not attempt to get up. He put his hands behind his back and the officer put him in handcuffs, police said. When asked why he ran, Young said because he had a bag of marijuana in his pocket, police said.

When the officer was searching the Ford Focus that Young was sitting in, Young was leaning on the hood, but eventually slid off the hood and fainted, police said.

The officer found a yellow, rock substance that appeared to be crack cocaine inside the car Young was operating, police said. In total, police found more than three grams of crack cocaine in the car and more than four grams of marijuana on Young, according to an arrest report.

Norwalk police charged Young with possession of narcotics, interfering with an officer, two counts of illegal possession near a school, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, according to the arrest report.

Young was issued a $5,000 bond. He is due in court May 2.
