Norwalk Man Injured in Possible Arson [Updated]

A suspect is currently in custody, according to police.

(Editor's note: The fire occurred at 35 Woodward Avenue, not 42 Woodward Avenue as originally reported.)

Updated, 12:47 p.m.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down a few minutes after the first unit responded and the house, which was about 30 feet away, was checked for any extension due to the vinyl siding melting off from the heat of the fire, according to a statement released Deputy Chief Chris King of the Norwalk Fire Department. The fire was placed under control within 22 minutes of the department's arrival.

The condition of the victim is still unknown at this time, according to the statement.

A city man is currently being treated at Norwalk Hospital for burns to his back after the Norwalk Fire Department responded to a call at 35 Woodward Ave. Tuesday morning, according to police.

Authorities were dispatched at 9:56 a.m. and found the victim in a detached two-car garage behind the residence. According to Sgt. Jim Boff, there was heavy smoke coming from the garage and the incident is currently being investigated by police as possible arson.

A 42 year-old man was taken into custody at Open Door Shelter at 4 Merritt Street shortly after police arrived, but he has not yet been charged, according to Boff.
