Motel Roof No Refuge for Norwalk Man Charged with Robbing Bank

Norwalk police say a tip led to the arrest Wednesday of Isaiah Gary, 32, of Norwalk for robbing a bank, but not before he tried to get away by climbing on a motel roof.

Norwalk police received a tip that Isaiah Gary, 32, of Norwalk, was responsible for the robbery at First County Bank last week, and that he was staying at the Westport Motel on Westport Avenue.

Police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

After the tip came in to an officer in the Special Services Division, police went late Wednesday morning to the motel at 344 Westport Ave., where they found Gary, who tried to escape by climbing onto the motel roof. It didn't work, and he was taken into custody within moments at 11:35 a.m., without further incident.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the robbery, for which Gary was charged with first-degree and second-degree robbery and held initially on a $200,000 bond.

If he does not post bond, he will be arraigned Thursday in state Superior Court in Norwalk. If he does post bond, his court date is July 31 in the same court.
