Norwalk Man Charged In Connection With 3-Month Old Daughter's Death

Norwalk man arrested in connection with baby daughter's death.

On Friday evening,  Justin Smith of Norwalk was arrested in connection with the death of his 3-month-old daughter, according to a statement from the Norwalk Police Deparment. Bond was set at $750,000.

According to the police, the department received a call on July 27, 2011  that a three-month-old infant was admitted at Stamford Hospital suffering from a severe head injury.  Due to the severity of the injuries, the victim was transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Det. Michael Murray of the Youth Bureau was assigned the investigation.  Further investigation revealed that the victim also received treatment for a previous head injury on July 2, 2011.  In addition, it was discovered that on both occasions the infant was under the care of Smith. On July 30, 201, the victim succumbed to injuries.

On November 8, 2011, after receiving laboratory results the Medical Examiners Office released an autopsy report revealing that the infant suffered skull fractures.  The cause of death was determined to be blunt head trauma and manner death was classified as a homicide.

Upon receiving the Medical Examiner’s findings and official autopsy report, an arrest warrant was applied for Justin Smith.  On November 18, 2011, the arrest warrant was approved.
