Norwalk Man Arrested For New Year's Eve Stabbing

Jamaal Gilliam of Norwalk arrested for allegedly stabbing man on New Year's Eve.

A traffic stop on Tuesday evening, led to the arrest of a Norwalk man wanted in connection with a stabbing that occurred on New Year's Eve at a local night club.

According to police officials, Jamaal Gilliam, 26, of 133 Monterey Place was one of four occupants in a car that was pulled over in a vehicle that was cited for numerous violations. There had been an outstanding warrant on Gilliam, who was a suspect in an assault that allegedly occurred at the Moose Lodge. A 28-year old man was seriously wounded after being stabbed in the abdomen.

The victim and several eyewitnesses pointed to Gilliam as the perpetrator. They had given a description of Gilliam that included the number and type of tattoos he had.

A patrol officer stopped a vehicle in which Gilliam was driving at 5:44 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of Washington and Raymond Streets. According to the report, the vehicle had tinted windows, a cracked windshield and rear tail light. Police officials called for the K-9 unit after spotted blunts in the vehicle. 

The trained dogs discovered a ziplock bag with a brown plant-like substance, that tested positive for marijuana. According to the police report, the marijuana had been soaked in formaldehyde or PCP.

Upon further investigation, police found 20 empty sandwich bags, 14 bag of marijuana and bullets. Police arrested the four occupants of the vehicle.

Gilliam was charged with:

  • Assault,, first degree
  • Possession of paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of school
  • Possession of more than four ounces of marijuana
  • Illegal possession near a school
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Conspiracy

Bond was set at $500,000 for Gilliam. He is due in court February 2.

Also arrested and charged were:

Paul Stewart, 27, of 62 Woodward Ave.

  • Possession of more than four ounces of marijuana
  • Illegal possession near school
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of paraphernalia within 1500 feet of school
  • Conspiracy

Bond was set at $2,500. Stewart is due in court on February 2.

Kristie Reda, 26, of 44 Lowe Street

  • Possession of controlled substance less than four ounces
  • Possession of paraphernalia within 1500 feet of school
  • Possession of marijuana less than four ounces
  • Illegal possession near school
  • Conspiracy   

Bond was set at $25,000. Reda is due in court on February 2.                                            

Antoine Laws, 26, of Bridgeport

  • Possession of marijuana less than four ounces

Laws has a court date on February 2.
