Norwalk Man Arrested for Carrying Illegal Gun at Colonial Village

Darryl Leak, 25, was allegedly found in possession of a Ruger .45 caliber gun loaded with six rounds and with serial number scratched off, according to police.

 

A 25 year-old Norwalk man was arrested on Saturday after officers allegedly found him in possession of a gun with the serial number scratched off, according to police.

Officers were patroling the Colonial Village housing complex on Suncrest Road following reports that shots were fired in the area, when one of the officers recognized Dwayne Leake—his exact address is unknown—who had previously been arrested for illegal arms possession in the past, according to police. When the officers asked Leak why he was at Colonial Village, which is a "no tresspassing" zone, he told them that he was visiting his girlfiend. Police said that Leak appeared to be nervous and wouldn't state his girlfriend's name.

The officers then asked Leak if he had any weapons in his possession and he told them that he had a gun tucked into his waistband, police said. The officers took control of hands and secured the weapn, wich was as a Ruger .45 caliber gun loaded with six rounds and with serial number scratched off. No other weapons were found in his possession, according to police.

Leak was arrested and charged with criminal tresspassing, criminal use of FM or electronic, carrying a gun without a permit and altering ID on guns. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 11.
