Norwalk Firefighters Contain a Leaking Propane Tank

Norwalk firefighters contained a large, leaking propane tank Tuesday, averting a possible explosion.

Norwalk firefighters Tuesday contained a leaking propane tank at a business on Reynolds Street, averting a possible explosion. No injuries were reported.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Ed Prescott, Ed Janowski, owner of Artistic Iron Works at 11 Reynolds St., called the department when he noticed the leaking 100-pound tank at about 6 p.m. Janowski quickly moved the tank outside to the parking lot before fire personnel arrived.

With the help of the Fairfield County Hazardous Incident Response Team, fire personnel set up a flaring device on the tank to safely burn off the excess propane. Burning off the excess propane took over an hour to accomplish.

Artistic Iron Works uses propane in the heating and shaping process for creating its art work.
