Norwalk Fire Dept. Fundraising for a "Sandy Ground Playground" in SoNo

"The Sandy Ground: Where Angels Play" was inspired by a little girl who sent a thank you note for playgrounds constructed after Hurricane Katrina.

The Fire Departments of Norwalk and Westport, long with O’Neill’s Pub are sponsoring a fundraiser to build a playground in South Norwalk in honor of Allison Wyatt, a 6-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

A group of dedicated volunteers with the Sandy Ground Project has set a goal of building 26 playgrounds in the tri-state area. Norwalk’s playground will be built at Oyster Shell Park and will cost $90,000, all coming through donations and sponsorships.

Construction is set to begin in mid to late October.

On Sept. 21, 2013 the Norwalk and Westport Fire Departments will host an event at O'Neill's Iris Pub in South Norwalk to raise funds for the playground project. The Event is from 3:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.
