Norwalk Cops: Darien DUI Driver Peels Out Then Slows to a Crawl

Norman Schenck of 379 West Ave. in Darien was arrested by Norwalk Police on Friday, Jan. 10 on multiple charges, including DUI.

Schenck had been stopped at a red light in a Black Nissan at the intersection of Connecticut Ave. and Scribner Ave. Police observed him accelerate at a high rate of speed after the light turned green, spinning his tires in the process. Subsequently, Schenck stopped his car so far into the intersection by the ramp to I-95 at Exit 14 as to impede vehicles attempting to exit 95 southbound.

A check of Schenck's license plate revealed it had expired expired in Nov., 2013. 

Schenck slowed his vehicle to a crawl and eventually came to a stop.

Police smelled alcohol on Schenck's person, though he denied drinking. Schenck was unsteady on his feet and slurred his speech, according to the police report. He failed to complete field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breath test. 

Schenck was charged with Failure to Obey a Control Signal, Unsafe Movement, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle and Operating Under the Influence. His bond was set at $2,500 and he has a court date of Jan. 22, 2014.
