Norwalk Cops Bust Suspect with 14 Pounds of Marijuana

Norwalk police Thursday seized two packages containing 14 pounds of marijuana and arrested the sender, a 40-year-old California man who tried to mail the boxes to an address in the city.

Norwalk police arrested a 40-year-old California man Thursday on illegal narcotics charges after authorities said he tried to send 14 pounds of marijuana to a location in the city.

Officers intercepted two packages containing the pot on Wednesday and contacted Clear Lake, Calif.-resident Edward Walker, who police said sent the boxes. He allegedly sent them to an address in Norwalk, but the occupants did not know what the packages contained.

The officers, acting undercover, made arrangements over the phone for Walker to pick up the boxes, so Walker flew from California to Connecticut on Thursday to retrieve them.

He made plans to meet the undercover officer in a parking lot on Connecticut Avenue, police said, and as he was preparing to take possession of the boxes he was arrested.

According to Lt. Jim Walsh, the pot had a total street value of more than $50,000.

Walker was charged with possession of a hallucinogen of more than four ounces, illegal manufacture and distribution of marijuana, and possession and sale of marijuana near a school.

He was held in lieu of a $500,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court Friday.
