New York Man Arrested For Alleged Use of Phony Credit Card

A resident of North Baldwin, NY, was arrested Sunday evening for allegedly attempting to use a fraudulent credit card to purchase a laptop computer.
A manager of Best Buy at 330 Connecticut Ave. called police to report a customer provided a MasterCard that did not have a normal appearance and did not display security information when held under a black light.
When Officer Ramon Velazquez arrived at the store, he was directed to a cashier’s station where the customer, later identified as Sacha Bryant, was allegedly attempting to purchase a 15-inch Macbook Pro laptop worth $2,339.69.
Velazquez reported the credit card Bryant provided was labeled as an affinity card for the University of New Brunswick, Canada, Alumni Association. Specially, the card read UNB Alumni Association, he reported.
The store manager reportedly told Velazquez MasterCard was contacted and an agent said the card was issued by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
Velazquez reported that when he asked Bryant what UNB was, Bryant said he didn’t know. Velazquez reported Bryant allegedly admitted he knew the credit card was not valid.
Bryant, 35, of 986 Clyde Rd., was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit third-degree larceny; third-degree larceny; illegal attempt to furnish money, goods or services on a credit card; illegal use of a credit card; and forgery of symbols of value.
Bryant was held on $10,000 bond and given a court date of June 6.
