New Canaan Man Charged in Norwalk Yacht Club Scuffle

A 57 year-old New Canaan man was charged with third-degree assault on Sunday after allegedly punching a another man on the side of his head during a heated argument at the Norwalk Yacht Club, according to police.

Police were called to Wilson Point over a disturbance between the complainant and Richard Kilbride, 57, of White Oak Shade Road. Kilbride was reportedly upset that the complainant was using the dock for his boat because he wasn't a member of the club. The complainant told police that he had permission from the Wilson Point Association to dock his boat there since his dock was being repaired due to storm damage, police said.

During the argument between Kilbride, the complainant and one of the complainant's family members, another man (who was also related to the complainant) walked by and allegedly was struck by Kilbride on the side of the head, police said. The victim suffered a small cut to the side of his head, but refused medical treatment, according to police.

Kilbride told police that he struck the man because as he was approaching the group, he appeared to show frustration, according to police. He also stated that he and the complainant didn't get along and had argued on previous occasions. The officers were able to confirm that the complainant had an agreement with the association to dock his boat at the club.

Kilbride is a member of the Parks & Recreation Commission for the town of New Canaan, according to the Advertiser. First Selectman Rob Mallozzi III replied "no comment" when the Advertiser asked whether the incident would have any affect on his job.
