Natural Gas Leak Causes Shut-off of Richards Avenue

Richards Avenue between Connecticut and Flax Hill avenues was closed to traffic for a time as a natural gas leak was fixed Monday afternoon.

Excavation at a construction project is believed to have been the cause of a gas leak at near 40 Richards Ave., between Connecticut and Flax Hill avenues at about 2:37 p.m. Monday, police said.

By 3:28 p.m. the leak was plugged, and repairs had begun, police said. Richards Avenue between those two intersections was closed, but by 4:15 p.m. the road had been reopened.

Numerous 9-1-1 calls were made to police about the leak, and Yankee Gas requested police make it a priority.
