Motorcycle Rider Seriously Injured in Accident with Norwalker's Car

William Pitt, 68, of Weston was seriously injured in Westport after his motorcycle collided with a car driven by Rosa Catterina of Norwalk, Westport police say.

A news release issued Wednesday by Westport Police:

At approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday the Westport Police, EMS and Fire Department responded to a report that a 2008 Nissan Altima collided with a Suzuki motorcycle on Long Lots Road in the area of Burr School Road.

Arriving emergency units located the victim lying in the roadway near the shoulder of the road and began medical treatment. The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS with serious injuries; the extent is still being determined.

The motorcycle operator has been identified as William Pitt, 68, of Weston.  The driver of the Nissan Altima was identified as Rosa Catterina, 70, of Norwalk.

A preliminary investigation into the crash found the operator of the Nissan Altima was driving east on Long Lots Road and failed to yield the right of way to the operator of the motorcycle driving west. 

The operator of the Nissan Altima turned left in front of the motorcycle.  The operator of the Nissan Altima was not injured in the crash and present at the scene. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Westport Police Department Accident Investigation Unit and the Patrol Division.
