A 48-year-old Norwalk man told police he inadvertently cut another man off in traffic on Connecticut Avenue on Monday, and then saw the other driver point a gun at him.

The driver of the other car followed Ansong to the college parking lot and approached him, complaining about having a gun pulled on him. Ansong said he had a permit for the gun and then entered a college building, according to the other driver, who called police at 5:40 p.m..

When Ansong returned to his car, an Acura, police questioned him. Ansong said he was nervous after the other driver cut him off and took his 9 mm Ruger out of his glove compartment. He never pointed it at or even displayed it to the other driver, he said, but he said it was possible that the other driver, who was driving a Saturn car, may have seen it.

Police found the gun, a 9mm Ruger, in the car and determined that Ansong did have a permit for it. He also told them he had another gun at home, and agreed to let police keep it until the case goes through the courts.

Ansong was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of a weapon on school grounds and second-degree breach of peace.

Man charged with armed robbery of his ex-roommate

A 30-year-old former Norwalk man was extradited Monday from New York City and charged with holding up his ex-roommate with a gun in February.

Norwalk police gave this account of the robbery and later arrest:

On Feb. 6, Andres Nieves' ex-roommate told police that as he was entering his home on Laura Street, Nieves confronted him at gunpoint and demanded the man's $900 in rent money.

Nieves then reached into the victim's pocket and took the money out, saying to the man, "This is what happens to you when you kick people out of your apartment."

The man had told Nieves to leave after Nieves had been arrested Jan. 19 on an accusation he stole a car in Norwalk.

Nieves, whose current address is 1460 Washington Ave. in New York City, according to police, had an appearance in state Supreme Court in Manhattan on Monday, where Norwalk police detectives picked him up and took him to Norwalk. He is charged with first-degree armed robbery and fifth-degree larceny and was held on $75,000 pending an April 11 appearance in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
