Man Survives Being Stabbed Multiple Times in Neck

Alleged assailant caught an hour later. Identified as former boyfriend of victim's girlfriend and father of her child.

A Bedford Avenue resident survived multiple stab and slash wounds to the right side of his neck Monday morning allegedly inflicted by his girlfriend's former boyfriend and father of her child.

Police were called to an apartment at 20 Bedford Ave. at 9:55 a.m. and found the victim bleeding profusely but conscious and able to identify his alleged assailant.

Just over an hour later, police arrested William Davis, 23, of 20 Novak St., and charged him with criminal attempt at felony murder, home invasion and first-degree burglary.

Lt. James Walsh said the incident began when Davis called his former girlfriend and asked her to meet him with their five-year-old son at Jefferson Elementary School on Van Buren Avenue, which is about a block away from the Bedford Avenue apartment.

After she exited the building, Davis entered the apartment, located the 23-year-old victim in bed asleep, and began stabbing him in the neck.

The victim was able to get up and struggle with his assailant. Walsh said  evidence in the apartment indicated the men engaged in a prolonged fight, with the victim having defense wounds on his hands. Davis, he said, appeared to have knicked himself with his knife.

Walsh said Davis left the apartment building and walked away with his victim following him. The woman spotted her boyfriend outside bleeding, brought him back into the apartment and called 911.

He was transported to Norwalk Hospital and underwent surgery.

Police broadcast a description of Davis, and he was located by Special Services officers at 10:58 a.m. riding a bicycle at the intersection of Concord and Day streets in South Norwalk.

Walsh said after the officers advised Davis of his Miranda rights, Davis made incriminating statements. He said Davis told the officers that after the stabbing he took a bus to South Norwalk, dumped his knife in a garbage can on Lawrence Street and changed his clothes. Police recovered the knife, which Walsh described as military-style black metal.

Walsh said after Davis left the apartment, he sent incriminating text messages to his former girlfriend. He said there have been past hostilities between Davis and his victim.

Davis was transported to Police Headquarters and processed. The amount of his bond was unavailable late Monday morning. Assuming he doesn't post bond, he'll be arraigned Tuesday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
