Man Loses Tools, Violin in Home Depot Car Burglary

Also, man allegedly ate snacks at Stop & Shop without paying for them.

A man came to Police Headquarters Wednesday afternoon to report his car was burglarized Tuesday evening while it was parked at The Home Depot, 600 Connecticut Ave.

He said he arrived at the store at about 6:55 p.m. and spent a half-hour shopping. He said when he returned to his car he noticed the right-side, rear passenger door was ajar.

He checked the vehicle and found a cordless drill, circular saw and bag of hand tools missing, along with his daughter's violin.

He estimated the tools were worth $500 and the violin $400.

Police were called to Stop & Shop at 385 Connecticut Ave. Wednesday afternoon on a report a man had been eating merchandise without paying for it.

The manager of the store said the man ate a package of cheese sticks, opened a bottle and drank from it, and then put Ritz crackers in one of his pockets.

The man was detained and reportedly said he was sorry, but was hungry.

Evangelos Christopoulos, 21, of 19 Durant St., Stamford, was charged with sixth-degree larceny.

Police spokesman Lt. Praveen John said Christopoulos also was found in possession of a marijuana grinder, resulting in his being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Christopoulos was held on $500 bond and given a court date of Dec. 17.
