Man Extradited from FL to face 2005 Child Sex Assault Charge

A 31-year-old Florida man was extradited and appeared Wednesday in state Superior Court in Norwalk to face charges that he had sex with a minor girl in 2005, when he was 23 years old.

Fabian Mesa of Altamonte Springs, FL, a suburb of Orlando, waived any objections to extradition and was escorted back to Norwalk by two police detectives, according to Norwalk police.

He is charged with first-degree sexual assault and impairing the morals of a minor. His bond was initially set at $500,000, but a judge in state Superior Court in Norwalk reduced that to $300,000, according to The Hour of Norwalk.

The Hour also reported that Mesa, a Colombian national, would likely be detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities if he made bail because his immigration status is suspect.

According to The Hour: The arrest warrant for Mesa states that he had an improper relationship with an 11-year-old relative in the summer of 2005. The girl's father came home one day to find Mesa's car parked in the front of the house, although Mesa wasn't there -- he had snuck out a window.

Mesa's case was transferred to state Superior Court in Stamford.
