Man Arrested for Possession of Narcotics Near School

A man pulled over for running a stop sign was arrested for narcotics early Thursday morning, according to police.

James Edwards, age 40 of Bridgeport, reportedly drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Raymond Street and Day Street. Edwards was stopped by officers, who reported that Edwards seemed fidgety and nervous, police said.

He gave permission for police to search his car, and was allegedly found holding a baggie containing marijuana. When a canine officer arrived on scene, the dog reportedly found crack cocaine hidden in a cigarette box in the car as well, according to police.

Edwards was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of narcotics, illegal sale of narcotics and sale and possession of narcotics near a school, according to the arrest log – both Side by Side Community School and Columbus Magnet School are in the area where Edwards was stopped.

His bond was set at $15,000 and his court date is scheduled for Aug. 1, according to the arrest log.
