Laundromat Fire Closes Main St Sunday Night

The following information was provided by the Norwalk Fire Dept., Sun., Nov. 24

The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a fire in the Laundromat at 171 Main Street, just after 10:00pm, Sunday night. 

Upon arrival Firefighters were met by heavy smoke coming out of the two front doors of the business. The fire which may have started in or around one of the commercial dryers had extended to some wood framing and charred some of the ceiling joists above the dryer, before firefighters opened the surrounding wall and ceiling to extinguish the fire.

Fire crews cleared the scene by 10:45pm and Deputy Fire Marshal Broderick Sawyer was on the scene talking to the business owner, and witness to determine the cause of the fire. Main Street was closed for an hour as firefighters worked.
