Just in Time for Easter: Bushes Stolen from St. Matthew Church

Last spring, St. Jerome Church was the victim in a spate of similar incidents.

Spring, and especially Easter are times for renewal, and some thief or thieves decided to renew the practice of stealing shrubbery from a church.

This year, St. Matthew Church at 216 Scribner Ave. in West Norwalk was hit. The parish reported to police at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday that five just-planted juniper bushes valued at $30 apiece were missing.

Last spring, among a spate of similar greenery thefts, St. Jerome Church at 23 Half Mile Road was hit.

Home burglary

A man living in a condominium unit at 42 Stuart Ave. left for the weekend and forgot to lock the back door. Returning Monday, he discovered that a combination Apple iMac/television, $300 in cash and some checks from his checkbook were missing, and the closets had been rifled through.

The police Detective Division is continuing to investigate the incident.
