Cops: He Sold Drugs in a Parking Lot with a Baby in His Car

Undercover police, acting on a tip, arrested a 26-year-old man who not only had cocaine and thousands of dollars in cash on him, but an infant in the back seat of his car, police said.

Norwalk police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the incident:

Police at about 7 p.m. Tuesday staked out the Webster Street parking lot in SoNo, where they said Jarvin Graves, whose address was given as a street in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, had a package of cocaine in plain view inside his car. An infant was in the back seat.

(Police in many different departments have reported finding illegal drugs or other illegal items in plain view in vehicles they look into. Often this is the basis of a search of the vehicle.)

A search of Graves and the car turned up 60 grams of cocaine in powder form and another 30 grams of crack cocaine. Police also seized $2,000 from Graves, and they will ask a court to have it forfeited as an asset police can use for drug law enforcement purposes.

The child was turned over to an aunt.

Graves was charged with risk of injury to a child, illegal narcotics selling, illegal narcotics selling within 1,500 feet of a school or daycare center, possession of narcotics, possession of illegal narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school or daycare center, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license.

His bail was initially set at $150,000, and if he made bail, he was scheduled to appear Jan. 17 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
