Intruder, 15, Punches Two Teachers at Charter School

A 15-year-old boy entered the Side by Side Charter School on Monday without permission, then punched two teachers who confronted him and fled, according to police who arrested him.

The school on Chestnut Street was briefly put in lock-down mode, police said.

The boy, about five feet, nine inches tall, was later found by police and arrested on various charges.

Norwalk police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the incident:

At 2:48 p.m., police were called by the school and informed of the intruder, who had entered a school annex building and walked through a classroom and the school lobby.

As first one teacher and then another confronted the boy, he punched them -- the first one in the face. Then he left the school.

Police arriving at the scene saw the boy on Chestnut Street, leaning against a fence. When police approached him, the boy fled but was soon caught. Near a fence he had jumped over, police found three bags containing marijuana.

Police said they were concerned the boy was acting under the influence of some unknown drug, and he was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.

The boy, a Norwalk resident, was charged with criminal trespassing on school grounds, risk of injury to a minor, third-degree assault and possession of less than five grams of marijuana. He is scheduled to appear Wednesday in a state juvenile court.
