High School Student Allegedly Assaults Nurses

The following information was provided by the Norwalk Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Briggs High School student who admitted drinking vodka before arriving for classes on Monday was later arrested for assaulting two nurses at Norwalk Hospital, police said.

Norwalk resident Dalis Mendieta drew the attention of police twice yesterday, beginning shortly after 8 a.m., when she, according to an officer’s report, got into an argument with her boyfriend in front of the South Norwalk Community Center at 100 South Main St.

A resident called police about them shouting at each other. The officer assigned the call separated them and drove Mendieta to Briggs. There, an officer assigned to the school as a school resource officer questioned her about being intoxicated.

After denying being drunk, Mendieta allegedly told him she had consumed vodka. The officer had her taken to Norwalk Hospital.

At 1:15 p.m., the hospital contacted police reporting Mendieta had become violent and attacked two nurses. Police said Mendieta lashed out as the nurses attempted to measure her vital signs, punching one in the chest and kicking the other in her rib cage.

Mendieta, 18, of 19 1/2 Cottage St., was charged with second-degree threatening, assault of emergency medical personnel, and creating a public disturbance.

She was held on $5,000 bond and assigned a court date of Oct. 5.
