"High-Profile" Patrol Nets Mouthful of Marijuana

The following information was provided by the Norwalk Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Special Services officers on a “high-profile” patrol of a South Norwalk public housing project said a man they stopped for possible trespassing had a mouthful of marijuana.

Driving through the parking lot of Roodner Court, the officers spotted a car occupied by a man and a woman near building 21. The lot has signs posted against trespassing, so the officers approach the car to see if the couple had reason to be there.

The officers said the car drove quickly out of the lot. They followed it and made a traffic stop near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Knapp Street.

When an officer walked to the driver’s side of the car, he reported smelling marijuana and ordered the driver to open his mouth. The man allegedly had a mouthful of a green plant substance.

The officer said he ordered the man to spit out the substance, but instead he mostly swallowed it, although he spit buds on the ground.

The driver, George Hines, 39, of 11 South St., was charged with possession of narcotics and illegal possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school.

A search of the car located a folded dollar bill containing cocaine, police said.

The woman in the car was not charged. Police said they had Hines’ car towed away because the woman said she had been drinking earlier.

Police Attribute Stop to Unusual Mouth Movement

Police said they stopped a man on Grove Street Thursday because, when he spotted the officers, he began making unusual movement with his mouth.

He was ordered to open his mouth several times, and eventually spit out three bags containing a substance that tested positive for cocaine, police said.

Michael Dawson, 33, of Bridgeport, was charged with possession of narcotics, illegal possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school, illegal manufacture, possession, distribution or sale of narcotics, and interfering with an officer.

He was released on $25,000 bond and assigned a court date of Sept. 16.

Ongoing Dispute Leads to Youth's Arrest

A North Taylor Avenue resident told police that a 16-year-old male she’s had an ongoing problem with threatened her with a knife and damaged her car while she was driving Thursday afternoon.

The 19-year-old woman said the teen approached her, pulled out a knife and put it toward her face, nearly cutting her. She said he then spat on her and kicked the rear fender of her car on the driver’s side, denting it.

Police went to the boy’s home where, with his mother present, he said he hadn’t had a confrontation with the woman, but that she almost ran him over with her car, police said.

Later he reportedly admitted he spat on her.

Police could identify the youth because of his age. He was charged as a juvenile with breach of peace, second-degree threatening, and reckless endangerment, and assigned a date to appear in juvenile court in Bridgeport.
