Hair Salon Burglary Yields A Large Amount of Cash

Front door frame had pry marks, police said.

The owner of a hair salon reported Saturday a large amount of cash was stolen from her business’ cash register.

Police said there were pry marks on the frame of the front door of Studio 49 1/2 at 49 1/2 East Ave., and when the owner entered the salon Saturday morning she found the register open and emptied of $2,000.

She told police when she closed the business Friday she used a key to turn off the register and lock the cash drawer. Since there was no damage to the register, she said whoever stole the money must have used the key to turn on the register and open the drawer.

Police said that on Jan. 11 they responded to a burglar alarm at the salon and found pry marks around the front door. The officers did not make contact with the owner on that occasion.

The register key was swabbed to see if the burglar's DNA was on it.
